In 2045, humanity faces extinction as the asteroid Nibiru approaches Earth. That single sentence was the seed of NIBIRU, our cinematic sci-fi trailer — and one of the most ambitious AI productions we have taken on at Sawa Films.
Starting With Story, Not Software
Every Sawa Films project begins the way traditional films do: with a story. Before a single frame was generated, NIBIRU had a written treatment, defined characters, a visual mood, and a shot list. AI does not replace that work — it changes what happens after it.
We treated the trailer like a real film shoot. Each shot had a purpose in the edit before it was created. That discipline is what separates a cinematic trailer from a collection of impressive but disconnected AI clips.
Directing AI Like a Camera Crew
Generating cinematic footage with AI is a directing job. Lighting, lens language, character continuity and color have to be specified, reviewed, and regenerated until they serve the story. For NIBIRU, keeping the two lead characters consistent across shots was the hardest technical challenge — faces, wardrobe, and mood had to survive dozens of generations.
Our team iterated shot by shot, rejecting far more footage than we kept. The ratio is not unlike a real set: you shoot a lot to cut a little.
The Edit Is Where the Film Happens
Once the shots existed, NIBIRU became a familiar post-production project: editing rhythm, sound design, music, and a trailer structure that builds tension toward the reveal. Sound carried half the atmosphere — the low rumble of the approaching asteroid, the silence before the title card.
What NIBIRU Taught Us
AI production does not shorten the creative process — it relocates it. The budget that once went to location scouting and VFX render farms now goes to direction, iteration, and taste. For studios and brands, that means cinematic visual storytelling is accessible at a fraction of traditional cost, without giving up the director’s chair.
